Doug was born on April 11, 1921 at Toronto, Ontario.
He attended Humberside Collegiate and worked at Canada Packers in the Accounts Department.
He enlisted in the RCAF at Toronto on November 6, 1941.
Doug trained at Manning Depot, Toronto; #1 ITS, Toronto and #4 B&G Fingal.
He was postsed overseas to the UK and landed at Bournemouth in September, 1942.
Doug was trained at #7 AGS, Stormy Downs, Wales; #22 OTU, Wellesbourne; #1649 HCU at Leeming.
He was posted to #419 Squadron at Middleton St. George.
His crew consisted of P/O Bill Boyce; P/O Duncan Black; P/O Lin Buck; Sgt. David Stewart; Sgt. Douglas Chambers; Sgt Richard Hall.
January 11, 1943 - at #22 OTU, cross-country lost in fog, landed by chance (and grace of God) at RAF Jurby, Isle of Man. March 9, 1943 - aborted operation to Munich when WOP found not to be aboard!
June 11, 1943 - coned by master searchlight over Dusseldorf, shot down by flak. Taken prisoner and sent eventually to Stalag Luft 6 in East Prussia. May 8, 1945 - liberated by 8th Army while on forced march on west bank of Elbe River.
Doug was demobbed at Toronto on September 3, 1945.
