James was born on September  4, 1923 at Toronto, Ontario.
He attended East York Collegiate for four years and graduated as a Real Estate Broker and Appraise.

He enlisted in the RCAF on August 19, 1942 at Toronto.
He did his Initial Training School at Regina, Alta., then his Elementary Flying School at Mossbank.
His bombing and gunnery was done at #5 Air Observer School in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
He received his Air Bomber Wing at Winnipeg on January 20, 1944.
He was posted overseas to Bournemouth, England in March 1944. He was posted to an Advanced Flying Unit at West French, then Operational Training Unit at Yorks. HCU at Lindholme #1 LFS.
He was posted to # 576 Squadron, #1 Group at Fisherton, Lincolnshire.
His crew consisted of F/L Bill Demille - Pilot; P/O Doug Sread - Navigator; Sgt. Bob Hayes - W/O;
Sgt, Fred Shufflebotham - Mid Upper Gunner; Sgt. John McDougall - Rear Gunnner and myself.

James  was demobbed at Toronto on June 27, 1945.
He attended Ryerson College Business Administration and graduated as a Financial Adviser - Real Estate broker and Appraiser.

On September 30, 1948 he was married to Mary Andrews and they had 2 sons and a daughter.
