Godfrey was born on November 5, 1915 at Ottawa, Ontario.
He attended Ottawa High School of Commerce and on graduation became a Manufacturer’s Agent, Import, Wholesaler.
He enlisted in the RCAF at Rockcliffe in September 1939.
He trained at #1 ITS, Toronto; #1 AOS, Malton and #1 B&G, Jarvis.
Received his Air Bomber Wing in February 1943 at Malton.
He was posted to the UK and arrived at #3 PRC, Bournemouth, in March 1943.
He trained at Westfreogh, Scotland; #26 OTU Wing near Leighton Buzzard
He was posted to #622 Squadron RAF on Stirlings then Lancsters at Mildenhall.
His crew consisted of:Pilot - F/S Hugh Craig; Nav. - Sgt Bruce Sutherland (RCAF); WOP - Bert Dineen (RAF)
FE - Denis Dart (RAF); RG - Frank Aldred (RAF); MUG - Frank Flowers (RAF)

January 27, 1944 - Berlin Raid - attacked by fighter about an hour after bombing target. Bruce Sutherland and myself were the only two to get out of our craft. On the loose for twenty-four hours, before capture.
Prison Camps: Stalag Luft III, East Compound; Oflag XXIB, East Camp, Luckenwalde.
Trivia: Barrack block 69 - room 6, lower bunk of first double decker upon entering on the right. Bill Thomas (RCAF) Air Bomber, Winnipeg, occupied the upper bunk!!

Godfrey was demobbed at Rockcliffe in June 1946.
He was involved in Busines - additional education at both Fanshawe College and University of Western Ont.
Married Jean A. McMartin, June 30, 1950 have a son John Timothry Sproule born August 14, 1954.
