Bill was born at Swan River, Manitoba on February 7, 1924. He completed his Senior Matriculation. He joined the RCAF in July, 1942 at Hamilton. He did his Manning Depot at Toronto; ITS at Victoriaville, Que.; #11 EFTS at
Cap de Madeleine; #8 SFTS at Moncton where he received his Pilot Wing in October, 1943. He was posted to the UK in November, 1943; #20 AFU, Weston on the Green; #18 OTU, Workshop; #1667 Santafh; #1 Lancaster Finishing School, Hemswell. He
was posted to #1 Group and served on #576 and #150 Squadrons at RAF
Fiskerton and RAF Hemswell. His crew consisted of; Ed Ryerse, RCAF, B/A; John Groat, (Deceased) RAF, F/E; Arnold Whiting, RAF, Nav.(Deceased); Oliver Cuthbert RAAF, WOP; Bill Lowery, RCAF, MUG; Frank Griffiths, RCAF, RG(Deceased).
Bill was released from the RCAF at Ottawa on November, 1945.
His Post-War career: Hamilton Teacher College, McMaster U. (BA) and a teaching career with the Hamilton Board of Education. Bill has four children, all university graduates.
Post-War Service; Primary Reserves - Instructor, University Reserve Training Plan; Recuiter, Mobilization Assignment Training Plan, Refresher Flying Training Plan (pilot - Chipmunk). Auxiliary Reserves - Personal Administration Officer, #16 Wing; 14 years as Personnel Selection Officer for Hamilton Militia District, Canadian Army Militia.
Bill is actively involved in RCAFA, Canadian Legion, RHLI museum and officers mess, Hamilton Natural History Club, conservation and environmental groups and a host of other community service organizations.
Perhaps most prominently, he is Chairman, Lancaster Support Group of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Mount Hope. July 03, 2001
