Chris was born on the 25 March, 1922, in Ottawa, Ontario. In the summer of 1940 he enlisted in the RCAF in Ottawa as a Observer. While at #1 Manning Depot, Toronto and on guard duty at Fleet St. Equip Depot he re-mustered to Pilot status. He completed his Initial Training School at Victoriaville Que., #13 Elementaty Flying Training School at St. Eugene, Ontario and his final training at #9 Service Flying Training School at Summerside, P.E.I. and was awarded his Pilot Wing in September 1941

He was posted overseas and arrived at #3 PRC Bournemouth in November, 1941. He completed his Operational Training School at Heston, Middlesex from Dec. 1941 till Feb. 1942.
He was posted to #134 Squadron, Londonderry, N. Ireland, March 1942. Posted to the Middle East - British Navy to Takoradi, Ghana, Pan American Airline to Cairo.
Moved to Khartoum during crisis in Egypt, then returned to the Aircrew Pool. Joined 417 Squadron in September 1942. Attended #1 M.E.T.S. at El Ballah Egypt for training and AFS on Hurricanes. Returned to 417 Squadron, at Edkou, Egypt, Oct.1942 to Jan. 1943. Moved to LG 175 (forward position) Feb. 24-28, 1943. Moved to Tripoli via Mersa Matruh, Buamud, Benina, Marble Arch, Misurata, Castel Benito and Melaha. April 17, 1943 moved to Goubrin.
Total Flying Hours - 316. 15 hours, including 80.55 operational hours, with 77 sorties.
