History

Ray was born on March 20, 1922 at Waterford, Ontario, and matriculated at Kitchener- Waterloo Collegiate.

Ray joined the Army, in May 1939 and then the RCAF on September 16, 1940. #2 Manning Depot, Brandon; Guard Duty, Portage La Prairie; #3 ITS, Regina; # 15 EFTS Regina; #32 SFTS, Moose Jaw, where he received his Pilotís Wings on April 10, 1941.

He was posted to Uxbridge UK in May 1941; #53 OTU Heston and Llandow on Spitfires. He served at Leconfield, West Hampnett, Debden and Biggin Hill and finally in the Western Desert, with the 8th Army Desert Air Force.  Squadrons served on; 129 Squadron RAF 11 Group; 401 Squadron RCAF Biggin Hill; 74 Squadron RAF Desert Air Force; 73 Squadron RAF Desert Air Force; 601 Squadron RAF Desert Air Force. Prison of War camps; PG75 - Bari, Italy; PG78 - Sulmona, Italy.

He was demobbed at Ottawa, February 5, 1945 and was in the Chemical Industry and was a professor at Ryerson Polytechnical University for 33 years from which he is retired.

His wifes name is Heather and they have two daughters Veronica and Allison.
