Most Memorable Operation.

I crashed in a Wellington while training. Bailed out over England while training. Bailed out over Germay on operation to Leverkusen.

November 19, 1943, shot down by flak (Near Dortmond). Pilot did not get out, according to crew after our return to England. Captured two hours later while walking west.

Prisoner of War camps were Dulag Luft, Frankfurt and Stalag Luft 1 - Barth.

History

Barry was born in Toronto on September 9, 1919. He enlisted in the RCAF at Toronto in 1942. He was at #1 Manning Depot in Toronto; #5 ITS, Belleville; #4 AOS, London and received his navigator wing Sept. 1942.

He was posted overseas, #3 PRC, Bournemouth: #6 EFTS, Sywell, England; #10 AFU, Dumfries, Scotland; # 22 OTU, Graydon and Wellesbourne; #1664 Conversion, Croft.

He was posted to #434 Squadron, (Bluenose) RCAF - 6 Group Bomber Command on Halifax at Tholthorpe, Yorkshire. The only crew member that he remembers is the Pilot - F/O Winning.

He was demobbed at Toronto in June 1945. He became a Chartered Accountant in 1947 and retired in 1987. He married Esther in January 1946 and they have two daughters and two granddaughters.
