Fred was born in Toronto on January 21, 1920. Prior to entering the service he worked with Cities Service Oil Co. in the Credit Dept and as a Stock Control Clerk.
He enlisted in the RCAF in October 1940 (Hospitalized and on leave without pay until January 21, 1941. Ground Crew - Clerk Admin.
#1 Manning Depot, Toronto (no basic training, assigned immediately to clerical duties with the newly formed Aircrew Ceased Training Unit). Unit was moved to Trenton in Mar 41 and became a component of #1 CTS.
#1 CTS, Trenton (Sr. NCO i/c of aircrew re-assignment) Remustered to aircrew in Jan 1942.
#5 ITS Bellville - #1 AOS, Malton. Received Observer Wing in 1942.
He was posted overseas, #1 “Y”Depot, Halifax and then to #3 PRC Bournemouth.
Advanced Training: #2 (O) AFU, Millom (nr Barrow in Furness); 10 OTU, Abingdon, then to satellite station;
#1652 HCU; #4 Grp Battle School then direct to #35 (PFF) Squadron, 8 Group, Bomber Command at Gravely
Temporary to Upton. Halifax II - HR 988 (T) and JP121 (U)

All members of the crew were POW’s. * Crashed with the plane and survived.
F/Sgt Leslie and Sgt. Paisley were commissioned while in POW camp.
Fred was demobbed at Toronto on November 9, 1945.
Completed his Chartered Accountant Degree with Clarkson, Gordon, Dilworth & Nash. (1945 - 1951).
Rejoined the Permanent Air Force in July 51. Last appointment, Comptroller, Air Transport Command, Trenton. Retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in January 1970.
Joined the Ministry of Revenue in 1970 and retired in 1987 as Assistant Deputy Minister - Taxation.
Spent two years in a consultant capacity with the Toronto Board of Education.
Married to Lila J. Clarkson, September 1946.
Two Children: Clarke, a Civil Engineer and Jane, a certified swimming instructor.
Celebrated “50th” Wedding Anniversary this year (1996) with a cruise to Bermuda,
