Donald was born at Grimsby, Ontario on July 21, 1920.
He enlisted in the RCAF at Montreal. He was posted to #1 Manning Depot in Toronto and also did his ITS in Toronto. Then to #10 EFTS at Mount Hope and finally #6 SFTS at Dunnville where he received his Pilot Wing in February 1942.
He was posted overseas and arrived at Bournemouth UK in March 1942. He started training at
 #5 AFU Ternhill, Shropshire: #3 Gen. Recc. Squires Gate Lanes; #8 OTU. Fraserburgh, Scotland.

He was posted to #542 Squadron (Spitfires) #1 Photo Reconnaisance at RAF Benson, Oxfordshire.

Donald reports photographing the dams following the breaching of the dams in the Ruhr by #617 Squadron. He also flew to Berlin and back in an unarmed Spitfire: he had a fuel problem over Holland at 30.000 ft.,
managed to get back to English coast with support of six Spitfires. Also had an engine failure at 30,000 ft. over Normandy beach. Crash landed Spitfire near Southampton on English coast. (Awarded DFC and US Air Medal)

Donald was demobbed at Toronto in May, 1945.

He graduated from the U. of Western Ontario with a (Hons) BA in business administration. He qualified and practised as a Chartered Accountant.

Donald is married with four children, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. March 9,2001
