Most Memorable Time
;While en route to Karachi, we stopped overnight at Bahrein and when walking to the mess for a late night meal and drink, we passed a billet with sheer curtains. It was a bedroom and who walked into the room in a sheer night gown but Vera Lynn! We stopped and stared - and stared - and stared. In the late 1980’s, I met Vera Lynn and recounted this story and we both had a good laugh over it. I promised her that I wouldn’t tell her husband - but I did and we had a good laugh.
Gordon was born on January 26, 1924 in Toronto and went to North Toronto Collegiate. He enlisted in Oct/Nov. 1942 in Toronto and trained at #3 Wireless School, Winnipeg and Gunnery School at Lethbridge and received his WAG wing at Lethbridge in 1943. He did his advanced training at Pat Bay then was posted to #117 Squadron, South East Asia Command.
He was Demobbed in August 1945 at Toronto. He attended U of T for 1 yr and then worked for DRG Packaging for 40 years. He was married in 1958 and has one daughter and one grandaughter.
